Spring Cleaning

Spring is the perfect time to tackle the cleaning you don’t usually do on a regular basis. The improved weather, change of wardrobe attire and shift in activities should inspire you just enough to do a deep clean scrub in time before outdoor activities take priority over indoor cleaning.  Spring cleaning is really a last hooray and kiss good-bye to being stuck inside. Here is a list to knock out before your weekend activity shifts over to sports and fun outdoors.

Kitchen Cabinets

Spray cabinets with a safe cleaning spray, let sit for about 15 minutes, then use a microfiber cloth to wipe the outside of them all down. After that, remove each cabinet’s contents and wipe down. As you take out your dishware, assess if you might want to clear out any dishes you didn’t use in the past year. If not, take them to your local charity organization to donate. Keep all the dishware you really love and get rid of the ones that aren’t being used and that don’t thrill you. Treat your kitchen like your family restaurant. Make it a restaurant that is fun, comforting and functional. This would be the time to swap out different sets for a fresh new set such as those cups that you only have three of. Go out and get a new set and get rid of the stragglers.

There are a number of wood creams that help put moisture and shine back into your kitchen cabinets. Apply this after the cabinet cleaning. One last thing you can do to really make your kitchen have a fresh clean look it to replace all of the cabinet pulls and handles if they are outdated or if you want a new look.  This is a fairly inexpensive way to give your kitchen a small face lift.

Windows

Cleaning the windows will immediately brighten up your home. For spring cleaning it is best to do a deep window clean. Wipe down all of the windows inside along with a microfiber or magic eraser wipe down of the window casings. For the exterior you will want to remove all of the screens and wipe down all of the windows. Then, wipe all of the screens clean before putting them back.

Counter-tops

If you have granite counter-tops in your kitchen, bathrooms or other rooms be sure to seal them every spring. This is a good opportunity to scrub and assess your current sink fixtures too. Replacing a sink fixture is fairly easy and there are lots of options at all price points. If a sink fixture is old, outdated or just doesn’t match the rest of your fixtures now would be a great time to swap it out. New fixtures really make your counter-tops have that new counter-top look.

Wood Flooring

Believe it or not, it is recommended that you only wet clean your wood floors once a month. For high traffic families this may not be practical. One way to reduce the amount of wet floor cleaning is necessary is to have all members of the house take their shoes off before entering. This will cut down on the tracked in dirt substantially and help preserve your wood flooring sealant by reducing the amount of wet floor cleaning is necessary. Bona cleaner is the best wood cleaner. It does an excellent job cleaning but is gentle on your wood floors. It is also the time to break out the white eraser or microfiber and wipe down the baseboards. If you have kids now is the time to delegate this fun task.
